about

Title taken from the John Rechy novel of the same name. On top of just being a terrific title for something, as a novel, City Of Night inspired the writing of “My Own Private Idaho”. It’s also referenced in L.A Woman by The Doors, in a repeated lyric shouted by Jim Morrison.

I really wanted to make something that lived up to the title, I think I captured the atmosphere well. Something sort of cinematic, driving, but sleazy, and grimy. The sort of city street ambiance, that’s very much “West End Girls” inspired, I wanted to establish the sort of urban atmosphere conjured up by the title. My mental image sort of drifts to 80’s New York.

Artistic intent aside, the track is held together with rubber bands and duct tape. Bunch of guitar parts frankenstein'd together to make something that makes sense.
